In addition to our services, Security Associates is also a Certified Training school, licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Criminal Justice Services, DCJS School Lic. 88-1111. For over two decades, Security Associates has been training employees and security professionals for over 400 security providers and companies. Our experienced and certified instructor staff is second to none. Our training staff is available to travel anywhere in the world for training and consulting for your security needs. The following is a list of training and certifications we offer.

Entry Level Courses

01E - Unarmed Security Officer Core Subjects: $90

This is an Entry level course and is scheduled for 2.5 days meeting the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) requirements of 18 hours of training. This course will cover the required topics of VA Law and Regs, Code of ethics, General Duties and Responsibilities, Law, Security Patrol, Access Control and Communications, Documentation, Emergency Procedures and Confrontation Management. Upon course completion the student will receive a Certificate and a DCJS Training Completion Form along with all the required applications/forms necessary for the student to submit to DCJS and receive their registration. The student is required to bring a State issued photo ID, a pen and paper and attire is business casual. Registration fee is $90 and fingerprinting is an additional $10 which must be paid no later than 24hrs before the start of class. Security Associates International, LTD. possesses its own training facilities and all fees are non-refundable.

02E - Private Investigator Course: $425

Course Time: 60 Hours

  1. Orientation: applicable sections of the Code of Virginia; Administrative Code 6VAC 20-171; standards of professional conduct; and ethics (6 hours)
  2. Law: basic law; legal procedures and due process; civil law; criminal law; evidence; and legal privacy requirements (16 hours plus one practical exercise)
  3. General Investigative Skills, Tools and Techniques: surveillance; research; and interviewing (16 hours plus one practical exercise)
  4. Documentation: Report preparations; photography; audio recording; general communication; and courtroom testimony (8 hours plus one practical exercise)
  5. Types of investigations: accident; insurance; background; domestic; undercover; fraud and financial; missing persons and property; and criminal (14 hours plus one practical exercise)

03E - Armored Car (Unarmed): $90

05E/07E - VA Entry Level Firearms & Arrest Authority: $275

This is an Entry level course and is scheduled for 3.5 days meeting the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) requirements of 8 hours of training for 05E on day 1 and 14 hours of training for 07E on days 2 and 3, the half day consists of the required Low light shooting course of Fire and the Scored Firearms Qualification. This course will cover the required topics of Proper care and Maintenance of the Firearm, Firearms retention and storage, Deadly Force, Justifiable Deadly Force, Principles of Marksmanship, Range Safety, Practical Firearms handling and Safety, Judgmental shooting and low level light shooting familiarization, Arrest Powers, Civil and Criminal Liability of the use of Firearms, Policies and Procedures. Upon course completion the student will receive Certificates and DCJS Training Completion Forms along with all the required applications/forms necessary for the student to submit to DCJS and receive their registration. The student is required to bring a State issued photo ID, a pen and paper, 200 rounds minimum of handgun ammunition (per Firearm caliber) and attire is business casual (on Range day tactical dress is preferred with ball caps and closed toed shoes). If student does not have their own Firearm the Academy can furnish a Semi-Automatic Glock G17 9mm Luger (student will still be required to purchase the ammunition). Additional Firearms calibers can be added for the cost of $40 per weapon and additional weapons and ammo must be furnished by the student. Registration fee is $275 for 05E/07E (required for Armed Security Officer/Courier) and $225 for 07E which must be paid no later than 24hrs before the start of class. Security Associates International, LTD. possesses its own range and training facilities and all fees are non-refundable.

08E - VA Entry Level Shotgun: $50

This is an Entry level course that can be added to 05E/07E Training and is 2 hours in duration meeting the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) requirements. This course will cover Firearms Safety and familiarity, Dry fire exercises, Shotgun manipulation drills, Judgmental shooting. Upon course completion the student will receive Certificates and DCJS Training Completion Forms along with all the required applications/forms necessary for the student to submit to DCJS and receive their registration. The student is required to bring a State issued photo ID, a pen and paper, 20 rounds minimum of Shotgun ammunition (10 - 12ga. 00 Buck 2 ¾" - 9 Pellets and 10 - 12ga. Lead Rifled Slugs 2 ¾") and attire is business casual (on Range day tactical dress is preferred with ball caps and closed toed shoes). If student does not have their own Firearm the Academy can furnish a Remington M870 Tactical 12 gauge Pump Shotgun (student will still be required to purchase the ammunition). Additional Firearms can be added for the cost of $40 per weapon and additional weapons and ammo must be furnished by the student. Registration fee is $50 which must be paid no later than 24hrs before the start of class. This is an In -Service course and is for those individuals who are currently registered with the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). The Course is scheduled for 4 hours and will cover the required topics of Legal Authority and Job related training. Upon course completion the student will receive a Certificate and a DCJS Training Completion Form along with all the required applications/forms necessary for the student to submit to DCJS and receive their registration renewal. The student is required to bring a State issued photo ID, a pen and paper and attire is business casual. Registration fee is $50 which must be paid no later than 24hrs before the start of class. Security Associates International, LTD. possesses its own training facilities and all fees are non-refundable

07R - Handgun Re-Training: $100

This is an In-Service course and is for those individuals who are currently registered with the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). The Course is scheduled for 4 hours and will cover the required topics of Legal Authority and Job related training (Qualification is not included in this time frame as per DCJS Administrative regulations 6 VAC 20-171-360), Re-Qualification is held in that afternoon at Security Associates International's own Facility. The student is required to bring a State issued photo ID, a pen and paper, 200 rounds minimum of handgun ammunition (per Firearm caliber) and attire is business casual (preferred Range attire is tactical dress with ball caps and closed toed shoes). If student does not have their own Firearm the Academy can furnish a Semi-Automatic Glock G17 9mm Luger (student will still be required to purchase the ammunition). 08R - Shotgun Re-Training: $40

This is an In-Service course and is for those individuals who are currently registered with the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). The Course is scheduled for 1 hour and will be held at Security Associates International's own Range Facility. Upon course completion the student will receive a Certificate and a DCJS Training Completion Form along with all the required applications/forms necessary for the student to submit to DCJS and receive their registration. The student is required to bring a State issued photo ID, a pen and paper, 20 rounds minimum of Shotgun ammunition (10 - 12ga. 00 Buck 2 ¾" - 9 Pellets and 10 - 12ga. Lead Rifled Slugs 2 ¾") and attire is business casual (preferred Range attire is tactical dress with ball caps and closed toed shoes). Expandable Baton Basic: $75

Includes Blocks/Strikes, concepts and patterns of movement. Registration Fee is $75. Upon course completion the student will receive a Certificate of Completion and a wallet sized certification card.

Expandable Baton Advanced: $125

Includes Blocks/Strikes, concepts, patterns of movement, escorts, take-downs and handcuffing.

Defensive Tactics Training: $80

Includes Blocks/Strikes, concepts, patterns of movement, escorts, take-downs and handcuffing. Upon course completion the student will receive a Certificate of Completion and a wallet sized certification card. (Tactical dress is preferred and the student is required to bring a State issued photo ID, a pen and paper).
